My new best friend

So, I finally did it. It’s been a long time coming, I bought a new car, seen here:

My new best friend. My new best friend.

This Acura MDX Touring has made me rather happy this week. The more time I spend with it, the more time I find joy really does come in large, golden metallic, wrapped in leather packages! Lol.

The amenities: Power doors, locks, seats. Sun/Moon Roof. Second and third row seating, leather seats, leather wrapped shift knob. Heated memory seats and mirrors. Steering Wheel Controls, Wood-Grain Dash. Trip Computer.

Not too high end that it’s going to cost me an arm and leg to fix, not to low brow I can’t pick up mad hotties. All in all an amazing SUV I’m proud to own.

It drives more like a car, than it does a truck. The steering is precise, and the ride makes bumps feel like soft mushy mole hills. Today I just discovered the power in the last 30% of the accelerator. Has pep when I need it, but at no time do I feel I’m in anything less that full control. It feels like a natural extension of myself on the road. Not to get too metaphysical about it anyway!

The heated seats are life saving in cold weather, the sunroof is there for me when I’m feeling claustrophobic. I’m already far too use to luxury, I don’t think I could ever live with anything less.

The bad? Well, the car is so smooth, I tend to zone out. It’s happened so often it’s scary. I pass the places I intended to turn, I notice potential lane changes later and sometimes not at all. It’s really effin’ ridiculous. It’s like the car is lulling me into a Zen state, and I have to shake my brain to wake it up. Either that, or I get honked at cause the light has been green for like 3 seconds. Lol. Absolutley ridiculous.

I’m seriously such an attentive driver, even though I’m a, as my friends like to say, “granny driver,” I’m still usually rather alert while driving. My nature is observation, and a car that dull that edge I have to think twice about. I don’t think there’s such a thing as “too smooth,” but I do think it’s something I get used sooner than later. Well, to tell you the truth, it’s either the car that has had me zoning out lately, or the inordinate amount of Jose Gonzalez I’ve been rocking in the ride since I got it.

And to hear him coming out of an eight speaker Bose system is just serene. The dude can change my mood in a second. His guitar is calming and hypnotizing. And his voice, man, think I’m going to have to put in and bump some Wu-Tang… LOUD, and see if I’m alert then. In any case, that’s all for now, I’ll keep the blog updated with further thoughts about the ride as they come. Till then, it’s all love, peace and silver! =$
